Submission Guidelines

Please preface your story with the following:

• Your complete name, address, phone, fax and email contact information

• An author bio of 50 words maximum which can include promotional information about your work, other publications, or your company

Story Length: 300-1000 words

Non-fiction. True stories only. Previously published material is accepted, but please provide information on where the story has been published when you submit the piece.

Deadline: May 1, 2007, but don't procrastinate!

Compensation: Writers of stories accepted for final publication will receive $200 per story published. Contributors of published poems will be paid $50 upon publication.

Rights Assigned: Non-exclusive (you control the rights and your story can be reprinted in other publications), world-wide, all languages. If you are not the copyright holder or you do not control the rights, please provide that information with your submission so we may contact the proper parties for permission to use the material.
 

What we look for in a Chicken Soup story

Chicken Soup stories inspire, uplift and genuinely touch people. They include dialog and are filled with vivid images, leaving the reader with a feeling of being there - in the story - with the people involved. Chicken Soup stories create emotion rather than simply describing it. They evoke:

• Amazement—“Oh wow!”

• An expanded heart

• Tears of joy or overflowing emotion

• Chills up the spine or goose-bumps

• A lump in the throat

• A more exalted reason for being alive

• An “a-ha!” moment of greater understanding

• A grin, a chuckle, or a belly-laugh

Cartoon Guidelines

Chicken Soup for the Empty Nester's Soul needs fresh, delightful cartoons -- originals or any of your favorites. See "About the Book" for topic ideas. Artists of cartoons accepted for final publication will receive $100 cartoon published. (Please refer to Rights Assigned in story guidelines.)

Submit Your Cartoon: Submit at www.chickensoup.com (Select "Empty Nester's Soul" as the book title.) Type "Cartoon Submission" under Story Title and list your topic idea/s under Paste Story. Please do not cut and paste the cartoon; it will not transfer. You will be contacted with detailed instructions for sending the cartoon itself.
